I'm in Love with a Commitment Phobic Man! Ways to Deal with this Issue

Most women dream of their wedding day for years. We plan every last detail including the dress, the music and who will be our attendants. It's the one day in a woman's life when she can feel like a princess and the focus is solely and completely on her. When you meet the man that you believe will be your soul mate, those visions of the perfect wedding start dancing circles in your mind. It's impossible not to think about being his wife when you're certain you want him to be your husband. The problem with that is when you realize that you've fallen in love with a commitment phobic man. Even though it may feel as though your dreams are crashing down around you, there are ways to deal with this relationship problem with compassion and understanding.

It's incredibly important to understand that even though you may be in love with a commitment phobic man it doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't love you just as deeply. A man can be completely and utterly crazy about his girlfriend, but when the topic of marriage rears its head, he goes into an emotional cave. There are many reasons why this occurs and little has to do with the man's reluctance to marry his girlfriend because he's not crazy about her. It's much more about his insecurities.

Identifying why your guy is so wary of commitment can completely change the future for both of you. Obviously, the best way to figure out what is causing him to hold back is to talk to him but it's important to note that not all men can effectively recognize why they themselves don't want to marry. It can range from his fear being ingrained at a young age when he watched his parents struggle through a painful divorce or it may be linked to his current friendships and how those men feel about their own marriages. If he sees his friends struggling to remain happy with their wives, he's going to think all men who marry will experience exactly the same things.

As tempting as it is to issue an ultimatum to him, don't take it that far. If a man truly has deep seated emotional reasons for being commitment phobic, your pushing him won't help. He'll shut down emotionally and end the relationship before he'll give in. That's why it's imperative that you understand how to subtly persuade him towards wanting a commitment.

Once you've expressed your desire to be his wife, don't mention it again. He knows that you love him and want a stable long term future with him. Instead, of hinting about the wedding dress you envision yourself in, work on becoming a more supportive friend to him. If a man feels as though his woman is going to be there for the long run, he'll feel closer to her emotionally. Many relationships that have withstood the test of time have been built on a strong and sturdy friendship. By working with him to establish an unbreakable bond, he'll start to let go of his fears and the idea of being married to you will feel natural and incredibly comfortable.
