California Takes Dating and Romance to the Great Outdoors

For those whose idea of a great date is having fun outdoors will never get disappointed in California. Whether it's jogging, biking, or horseback-riding at Whiskeytown, or just taking the dog together for a long walk around the neighborhood, or surfing in the dazzlingly white sandy beaches of Malibu or Coronado, Californians definitely know what it means to chill out.

Since dating in California is a reflection of the kind of people that reside in it — the liberal, laid-back, outdoorsy types — a romantic weekend getaway in California is guaranteed to make even the most hardcore career live wires take pause and just enjoy the sun and scenery.

The following are just some of the never-to-miss attractions in California should you decide to whisk away a childhood sweetheart or perhaps you and your partner are simply in need of some one-on-one time alone for a weekend of sun, adventure and rejuvenation.

Malibu beaches, renowned not only in California but throughout the entire United States, draw millions of visitors each year. It's arguably the most popular celebrity getaw ay in California, and many movies, TV shows, and music videos (Love American Style, Malibu's Most Wanted, and Destiny's Child's video for "Survivor") were shot in these parts). Zuma Beach which lies along the Pacific Coast Highway, is considered by some as the ultimate beach destination in Malibu because it's so immense, and the water is beautifully clear and inviting especially during the hotter months.

Los Angeles's Laguna Beach is another romantic and drop-dead gorgeous hideaway in California. Tourists just can't help but fall in love with its pristine beaches, seaside cliffs and its old world California charm.

California is not all beaches, though. Santa Barbara, for instance, offers breathtaking views of mountains and valleys dotted with multicolored wildflowers, ancient trees, and well-groomed vineyards. Here, you'll find countless restaurants, country inns, and wine tasting rooms.

The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco has got to be the most easily recognizable landmark in California. The view of the bridge at sunset is just so exquisite that many couples use it as a backdrop for picnics.

Speaking of sunsets, another spectacular sunset really worth checking out is in Yosemite National Park. Perched on a meadow some 4,500 feet above sea level is Sunset Inn. Made up of three cabins tucked away in Yosemite woods, this romantic and secluded place offers travel weary couples not just a place to stay the night but also to appreciate the fresh air and lush vegetation in the park, and the sublime experience of watching the sunset.

Sierra Nevada is the only place where you will find the world's biggest trees. Many nature-loving couples don't mind the long drive to the Sequoia National Park just to meet its most famous behemoth resident, General Sherman, the 2,200-year-old sequoia tree.

So if you're on a first date or simply looking to add some real adventure and quality time together with your honey, there's a whole lot more on offer in California than the usual bar scene and coffee shops. First impressions really do count, so put the effort into arranging a date that will hold significance and fond memories. California is perfect for this type of date because it lets couples see each other in action and provide a better backdrop for more interesting conversations among the natural wonders of the great Californian outdoors.
