I met my boyfriend at a Professionals in the City Jewish Dating Washington DC event last August. It was the fifth event I had been to. I thought he looked familiar because I had seen him before. Turns out, we had actually met on the Trip to Croatia a couple months before that.
I remember the night we met like it was yesterday. I was seriously considering that to be my last speed dating event because I felt like I was tired of going to them and never meeting anyone interesting who liked me back (as it sometimes goes with dating) Anyway, I decided to dig "that dress" out of the back of my closet; you know, the dress that a woman has maybe worn once but saved for a special occasion like Jewish dating events.
After spending an hour on my hair and make-up, I finally arrived at the Jewish Dating Washington DC event. When everyone was getting their name tags and numbers and double checking their e-mail addresses, I saw him. I can not decide to this day whether it was the sparkle in his brown eyes from across the room or the way he seemed to be smiling at me like I was his million dollar prize. We got through two introductions each before we "met" each other during the event. We had a hard time leaving each other during rotations, so we decided to ditch the party and go outside for a smoke.
That very night, we both agreed that there was no need to even log on to the Professionals in the City mutual match dating feature the next day. Partly because we had only met two other people at the event, but mostly because we already knew that WE mutually matched with each other. The funniest thing was that I admitted that I was not Jewish and that I was only doing Jewish dating that night because I was curious about it, and he admitted that he was not really Jewish!
We went on a couple dates after that before becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. We will be meeting each other's parents next weekend. I can not wait to see the look on our parents' faces when we tell them that we met at a Jewish Dating Washington DC speed dating Pros in the City event!
